I can see Dev crying right now over this photo at his computer....and on a side note....big games this weekend for USC men's basketball (vs. Auburn) and baseball (against Klempson)....both of these games we need W's!!!! Now go pray for the lost beer in this photo and for USC wins!

Simpsons vs. 1st amendment

I saw this article today and thought to myself that this is very sad...What is America coming too....you be the Judge...?
(Dev would be proud !!!)

Study: One in 1,000 Know First Amendment (AP News)

Americans apparently know more about "The Simpsons" than they do about the First Amendment.

Only one in four Americans can name more than one of the five freedoms guaranteed by the First Amendment (freedom of speech, religion, press, assembly and petition for redress of grievances.) But more than half can name at least two members of the cartoon family, according to a survey.

The study by the new McCormick Tribune Freedom Museum found that 22 percent of Americans could name all five Simpson family members, compared with just one in 1,000 people who could name all five First Amendment freedoms.

Joe Madeira, director of exhibitions at the museum, said he was surprised by the results. "Part of the survey really shows there are misconceptions, and part of our mission is to clear up these misconceptions," said Madeira, whose museum will be dedicated to helping visitors understand the First Amendment when it opens in April. "It means we have our job cut out for us."

The survey found more people could name the three "American Idol" judges than identify three First Amendment rights. They were also more likely to remember popular advertising slogans. It also showed that people misidentified First Amendment rights. About one in five people thought the right to own a pet was protected, and 38 percent said they believed the right against self-incrimination contained in the Fifth Amendment was a First Amendment right, the survey found.

The telephone survey of 1,000 adults was conducted Jan. 20-22 by the research firm Synovate and had a margin of error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.

4 in a row....

Well the USC basketball team has lost again and reached a new low for the season...USC's only chance to avoid a last-place finish in the SEC East is to defeat Auburn on Saturday and hope Georgia loses its final two games, at Florida and against Arkansas. I read in The State today the story about the game and Coach Odom's quote --- "Maybe I'm not tough enough. Maybe I've got to get tougher myself," Odom said. "If I give up, they're going to give up. I'm not going to give up. So, there's no chance they will. It's easy to give up. But it's wrong. I am not going to let my guys do that. When will we win? When we are good enough. Those are simplistic answers, but those are the answers."

I do not think toughness has much to do with it here....USC is a very tough team and has a great defense....but offense needs at least one player to step up and perform....last year Carlos Powell did that (from time to time)...but this year it seems no one wants to be the "star." It seems we are playing in a offense that requires you to pass the ball at least 3-5 times before you take a shot.....Does anyone know when the last time a USC team scored 100+ points????

I will go now and pray that we can win this weekend....I still have hope that we will win the SEC (okay most likely not....) and that Odom irecruitmenthe recuritment trial hard this year and is going to bring in some top players......I guess with everything, we shall see!

USC needs a 'W' tonight.....badly.....

Big game tonight for all you Gamecock 'faithful' out there....LSU vs. USC ! This is a big game for USC, 14-13 and 5-9 in the SEC, as they will host No. 24 LSU, 20-7 and 12-2 in the SEC, in its final home game of the season on Tues., Feb. 28 at 7 pm. The home team has won the last four match-ups between the two teams, with USC also defeating LSU in the first round of the 2004 SEC Tournament (85-64). USC is 2-0 vs. the SEC Western Division at home this season and 0-2 vs. the same side on the road. USC has lost three straight, including its second straight one point loss, falling 56-57 to Vanderbilt on Feb. 25. USC is 6-5 following a loss.

USC has had 14 games decided by seven points or less, posting a 5-9 record - including nine of those being SEC games (USC is 3-6 in those games). USC has had six games this season decided by three points or less, including three in a row earlier in the season - UGA (61-64), at Vandy (66-64) and at UK (78-80). Three of the six games that were decided by three points or less went to OT. Each of USC's first six SEC games were decided by seven points or less and nine total have been decided by the same tally.

Besides all of that the Gamecocks need a win bad heading into the SEC Tourney and need a win to prove something to the NIT selection Cmte because we all know that the NCAA tourney is out of the question unless by the grace of God we win the SEC tourney.......and some are getting tired of ole' Davey as the coach.....he needs a win badly!!!

Photo of Angry 'Tom Tom' at birth....

After conducting some further research on why 'Tom Tom' is a angry man and thinking about what the Advice Man had to say on this subject......I ran across this baby photo of 'Tom Tom' in the hospital. As you can see by this photo....he began his life as a "angry baby" and this lead to him being simply a Angry 'Tom Tom' as he grew older in life.....

Our Hero....

If you have ever been to Columbia's Five Points area or even the Richland County Library you most likely have seen 'our hero'...Jerimiah. He is our 'homeless' friend who we sometime donate money, drinks or food too. His most famous quote is "Let me hold a dollar..." or "aaaahhhhhhhh" or will simply talk in tongues to you as you pass. He is the world record holder for attendance at 21st birthday parties and once when to the library for 3 years without reading a book (would be a record but I think Penny may have him beat here). I could go on and on about this great man in Columbia but I want you to check him out yourself. It seems he has learned something by going to the library and that is how to use myspace.com......

Check this out.....

Anyone have any good stories about 'our hero' that you want to share???

We would like to welcome the advice guy

So as my blog grows, my staff and I have decided to open a new forum to the blog. A question and answer type of blog (some would even call it a Dear Abbey) that allows you the fans to write in and ask questions. The Advice Guy will then research the question and give you some wise advice, might not be what you are looking for but it will at least be somewhat helpful. Questions like: “Why does cheap bourbon give me such a bad hangover the next day?” or how about “what is the best way to trick my girlfriend into having anal sex?” The Advice guy is here to answer all of your questions, so feel free to get this party started.

Anyone need a bumper sticker....

I recently came across this bumper sticker and after reading the other site....... thought it summed up all the recent news with the true "crazy dick."

USC Athletic Dept asks "Let me hold a dollar..."

I found the article in The State paper today about the likelihood of USC football tickets increasing to be interesting. I will be the first to say that we need better facilities on campus especially for our "other sports teams." But I find it hard to understand how for the last 5+ years we have set record numbers with gamecock club dues and have "sold out" nearly every game since 1998. Where has this money been going??? Not too mention every year since 1997 there has been a tuition increase (which a portion does go to the athletic dept).....Now do not get me wrong...I will be 'bending over' come June and signing up for season football tickets again and have already signed up for another year of half scholarship gamecock club dues (ouch!).......

My wish is that all this money going into the athletic program will produce three things for 2006-2007......
  • USC basketball to win 25 games in 2007...('06 seems out of the question)
  • USC football to win 9 games and make a run for the SEC East in '06-'07
  • USC Baseball team (which is getting a new stadium in '07) to return to the NCAA tourney in Nebraska for 2006 and 2007

I feel none of this is too much to ask for as a investor and may I mention the staff of this blog does bleed garnet!
