LOHD is putting Ole Miss on Upset Alert for 3 reasons

The Gamecocks host No. 4 Mississippi Thursday night and it is going to be a dogfight.  The Rebels are the highest ranked opponent to come to Williams-Brice since No. 2 Georgia visited last September.  A win on Thursday night would be the highest-ranked opponent Carolina has ever beaten at Williams-Brice Stadium.

This game is going to be an instant ESPN Classic game in my view.  You got Snead, Hodge and Hardy coming into a great college football environment to play a team that beat them last year.  Revenge is on the table.  Spurrier loves these type of games and it seems he has a offense in '09.  How will the USC D hold up vs a very good yet untested Ole Miss offense?  How will Garcia manage vs the Ole Miss blitz?

Lots of questions lingering going into the game.....but as I have said thus far this season I am not buying the Ole Miss Kool-aid.  I think Spurrier is going to prepare his team and Ellis is going to have the right package.

Why is LOHD very confident that the Gamecocks can win should win this game?  Here are some reasons....

1.  Coach Spurrier is 3-0 in his career vs. the Rebels and 12-2 overall vs. teams from the state of Mississippi.  He knows a win on Thursday on the national stage can be huge for his team.  He is not going to let this chance pass him by.

2. The Rebles don't have the experience of playing on a Thursday game.  Short weeks are much different to plan for and adjust.  South Carolina is 5-2 on Thursday night under Steve Spurrier and 4-1 at home. The last defeat on a Thursday night game was a 24-17 loss to the then-No. 2 Auburn Tigers.  Willy B will be pumped for this game and it will be transfered to new energy for the USC team.

3.  The Rebels, currently 2-0, are the only SEC team yet to play a team from a BCS conference this season. Let's be honest here...they have not faced anybody so this is going to be a test on where this Ole Miss team is - are they that good?  Ole Miss has just seemed flat and maybe that is by design.  Nutt most likely has had this game highlighted on the schedule and been playing conservative thus far.  At least Ole Miss fans like to think this.  I just don't see Ole Miss conquering our defense.  I think it will be close but USC will pull it out in the second half b/c of the lack of "battle stripes" Ole Miss has earned this season.

This team is, without a doubt, the most overrated in the Top 25, least of the Top 5. This is a game we need to, and should, win.
