You go girls...

The University of South Carolina "Lady" Gamecocks Softball team, is ranked No. 21 in the National Fastpitch Coaches Association's final softball poll of the 2007 season. The poll was released this past week.

Also last week, USC capped off the season with a No. 24 ranking in the ESPN.com/USA Softball poll.

We here at the LOHD blog like to celebrate the successes of the USC athletic program whether it be a men’s team or a women’s team b/c the way we see it, and let’s be honest with ourselves here, we don’t have a lot to pride ourselves on concerning national championships or bowl wins, etc. at USC.

The two national ‘team’ championships belong to our women’s track team and our equestrian team. So let’s be proud of our women’s programs at USC because our men are not “bringing home the bacon.” Yeah we won back to back NIT trophies but in today’s sports world that is like saying we are the 65th or 66th best team. So we won what a handful of bowl games in our history and some SEC titles and went to the CWS a few times and finished runner up in soccer and have come close in golf…..on don’t forget our “what if” year and that loss to Navy. Granted the men’s program is making strides which we love to celebrate as well in LOHD posts.

So be critical as you like but the reality is we here at LOHD love the USC athletic program as a whole (besides the out of control football ticket prices and gamecock club dues) and will make a point to post successes within each program.

We hope all our sports finish strong and in the top 25 year after year. But just like in life let’s be realistic and I may suck for posting a softball congratulatory post but I do pray daily for a football championship or at least a SEC title, heck just win the East, and wish Tanner could lead the team to a CWS title but for now those are our hopes. As the state motto says “as I breathe I hope.”
