USC heading south in the baseball polls...

Vanderbilt remained No. 1 in Baseball America, followed by Florida State, Virginia, Rice and Texas.

USC (33-13) was 2-3, with one of the losses coming after the Gamecocks were unable to hold an eight-run lead at Alabama on Sunday (which we will avoid a much needed LOHD rant on that subject). The Gamecocks fell five spots to No. 14 in the Baseball America rankings. And in the other poll, USC fell from No. 10 to No. 17 in the Collegiate Baseball poll.

Clemson took a "big jump" from 19th to 18th in this week's Baseball America rankings. However, the Tigers fell from 19th to 24th in the Collegiate Baseball poll.

Coastal Carolina held on to its No. 21 ranking in Baseball America, while College of Charleston stayed No. 30 in Collegiate Baseball.

Sc is slumping at the wrong time of the season....

This happens every year, the pitching starts to get used up and the bats go cold. Hopefully Ray and the yardcocks can turn it around after a week of exams and rest. Kentucky will be here this weekend, and we should bounce back with a sweep.

Not only did the Gamecocks drop their second straight SEC road series, they also failed to extend their mastery of rival Clemson, finishing the season with a 3-1 mark against the Tigers. Junior RHP Harris Honeycutt (5 IP, 5 H, 4 ER) has now lost three consecutive Fridays after opening his career a perfect 15-0. Junior RHP Wynn Pelzer (5.1 IP, 8 H, 8 ER) made his first start of the season Sunday but couldn't protect a 10-2 lead.

South Carolina would now be the fifth seed in the SEC tournament.
