University of South Carolina tailback Mike Davis will be suspended for one game this season for violating the athletic department's class attendance policy. Which game? Well that has yet to be determined. Read more - here.

The Gamecocks are already set to be without one starter in their first two games --left offensive tackle Jamon Meredith of Simpsonville. The NCAA mandated Meredith miss the first two games when it granted him a redshirt year for 2004 after he played three plays against Vanderbilt. Spurrier also said redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia may miss a few practices this spring because of missed classes. Garcia is expected to vie with Chris Smelley for the starting job when spring drills begin March 19.

Football players beware...

5 points and football players just don't mix, there are bad omens around those two topics when put together. And the media loves for USC to screw up. I agree with Snead in his recent comment concerning this topic.

What does it take for everyone to realize that Five Points and USC football players just don't mix well. Today we here the latest tale of Kyle Young but let's take a moment and look at some recent history. Defensive end Jordin Lindsey was stabbed in the neck there in early December. Quarterback Stephen Garcia was arrested for public drunkenness last February, also outside Red Hot Tomatoes. In 2006, former quarterback Blake Mitchell had his infamous Pavlov’s arrest for trying to fight a bouncer. Oh and to top it off, let's not forget right tackle Justin Sorensen partying it up in a dress the night before a season-changing loss to Arkansas.

Our plea here at LOHD is simple for the football team - stay away from 5 points or at least act like you have a brain if you go down there.

The Philadelphia Soul of the Arena Football League signed former South Carolina defensive lineman George Gause recently. Also, the Soul waived former USC offensive lineman Jabari Levey on Feb. 25.

Gamecock freshman charged in fight

THE STATE is reporting this morning that ---"South Carolina offensive lineman Kevin Young was charged for his role in a fight in a nightclub area near campus early Sunday. Young was charged with fighting and resisting arrest, given a citation at the scene and was not taken to jail."

Down goes Clemson...

What a sweet sunday...gamecocks beat the tigers in clemson by the score of 5-1. We had great seats behind home plate 12 rows up, one row from Doug Kingsmore himself thanks to a clemson fan, and got to watch a great game on a sunny sunday. The game was closer than yesterday but the gamecocks pulled it through and played steady defense late despite some early mistakes. It was bitter sweet to watch all those faithful clemson fans leaving after 8 innings. It was good to beat clemson back to back and limit CU to only 2 runs in 2 games. Clemson came into the weekend averaging better than nine runs a game, but managed only two runs total against the Gamecocks.

The two wins over Clemson gave South Carolina coach Ray Tanner his 900th career victory in 21 years with North Carolina State and the Gamecocks. It was also South Carolina's fifth win in its past six games with Clemson (5-2) - a rare run of dominance in a state series where the Gamecocks (5-1) came in with a slight 17-15 edge since 2000.

The teams play twice more this season, at South Carolina on April 9 and at Clemson on April 16.

Next up - Clemson for round 2

After enjoying a great day at the Sarge and watching the gamecocks beat up on the tigers it is time to travel north to Clemson. USC (4-1) will look for its fifth win in six games against the Tigers when the teams meet at 2 p.m. today at Doug Kingsmore Stadium.

It also should be a great day to watch some college baseball and we should have good seats this game. I must say one thing and that is the field at the Sarge looked in great shape yesterday but of course we are in desperate need for a new baseball complex. There are 30 games remaining at the Sarge this year so make sure you catch at least one before they move near the colonial center next year.

I hope the hot bat of carolina continues but what needs to continue is the good pitching backed up by great defense..that was the key yesterday and that will be the key today. Clemson had their chances yesterday but thanks to great defense, SC never suffered damage. I hope SC can pull out another big win and do it early b/c those tiger fans were in the game till Reese hit the grand slam and oh did they shut up quick. I hope that happens today with the 'cocks gaining a early lead and keeping it. Anyway off to clemson.....

The stars must be aligned...

Because not only did the Gamecocks win 10-1 vs. Clemson today but the USC men's basketball team beat Auburn.

The men's basketball team improves to 13-15 and 5-9 in league play. The Gamecocks clinched at least one improvement over last year, getting their fifth league win. They also moved a game-and-a-half ahead of Georgia in the “race” to avoid finishing last in the East Division.

Bun of the day goes to -Shortstop Reese Havens with his two-out grand slam in the second inning. Havens finished with five RBI, tying his career high he set in USC 22-5 win over East Carolina in its season opener.
