WTF Southern Miss

I thought that ESPN was suppose to provide us with a game that people will want to watch. We are trading an opening game with UNC for Southern Miss, and we are going to pay them 900,000 bucks. I was hoping for at least another ACC school.

Any thoughts on this gamecock nation?

Forgive us (Southern Miss) for failing to live up to the prestigious reputation of USC.

Southern Miss has 15 consecutive winning seasons, and 7 straight bowl appearances. Not to mention 11 bowls in the last 12 years.

We're a big fish in a small C-USA pond... but we know it. Your an SEC mid-major; never a failure, never a success, and it's cute how you always manage to put up a good fight against SEC powerhouses.

Everybody loves the underdog. The nation will be watching, hoping for an upset, and every non-USC fan in America will be cheering us on in the same way they did Boise-v-Oklahoma in the Tostitos Bowl.

Have fun with Spurrier... he's really taking you places you've never been.

I have a lot of respect for the USM program. Unfortunately for us, though, the game is something of a lose-lose. If we win, it's not big deal; we did what we should have done. If the game is close or we lose--and that's very possible against a program that has beaten many top teams over the years--we're laughing stocks. Oh well. Bring 'em on.

BTW, landon, get real. We may not be Florida, but in all likelihood we'll still beat you by at least two TDs. And yeah, don't forget that we are subsidizing your program with the payout.

Snead: If you're such a football fan, you'd know that fees are as much a part of the game as cheerleaders and Lou Holtz.

gamecock man: You're right... kinda. Being beat by USM used to be a blow to a program. That that all changed with wins over Alabama, Auburn, Nebraska, TCU (when they were #8 going into the bowl season), amongst others. It's not the loss that will be the deciding factor... it's how you lose/win against a team like Southern Miss.

A part of the game?

What a joke.

This isn't a diss against your program, this is an issue with our AD, our expectations and the value of our dollars.

landon, would we be excited if your baseball team came to columbia? absolutely. is a c-usa season opener with no real recruiting implications an upgrade from our border rival? absolutely not.
im not knocking your football team, but unless favre gets another year of ncaa eligability i'd rather sit around and watch my cock get smaller than pick up this game

Once again ESPN has lead us to believe that they would help us out and once again they have stepped on our throats.

There is no way UNC makes the return trip to Columbia in 2013. We will end up playing Middle Mississippi community college. By 2013 they will be asking for us to build them a whole new university.
