water cooler talk

Did you hear that John Paul's Armadillo Oil Co is closing tomorrow for good.

A moment of silent for all you steak eaters (cashwell that is you). One of Columbia's restaurants is selling out for the profit value in the vista. I did a little research but the manager at John Paul's Armadillo Oil Co wouldn't tell me who bought the building, or what type of restaurant is going into the place. Granted she might not know. But that is all the info I have for now, but if I hear anything I will keep yall posted.

The wrath of a woman...

Ran across this blog the other day from another site. It is about a woman who started a blog about life then finds out her husband is cheating with her best friend (the friend that encouraged her to start the blog).

The blog now is updated with how she is "screwing" her husband after she finds out about the affair. She paid for a billboard and spread the news; also hacked into his fantasy baseball teams and dropped all his players. Kinda goes back to the saying "hell have no furry like a woman scorned..."

What do ya'll think about this ??? And take note.

Football fans...

who like to talk about how Byrnes Football is the greatest and the best high school football team in the country (i.e. Brad Martin). I ran across this site today, it is a blog or similar to one set up for Willy Korn, who is competing in the Elite 11 QB Camp in Cali this week. (Note Garcia from Florida is also in the camp and this is a recruit that USC is trying to get.)

The site gives updates on what is going on for Willy at the camp. Mr. Korn as you may know is going to Clemson, is a national top 10 recruit and will enroll at Clemson in Jan. 07 to get a head start, also Byrnes Football was ranked this week as the number 1 team for high school football.

I always enjoy talking with Brad Martin about Byrnes football at USC games, I recommend it to all that know him to bring it up next time you see him. Simply start the conversation off by saying "Byrnes sucks" or "Byrnes could beat USC" and he will take the conversation from there. Side note---Remember the name Kip and Colton Korn, younger brothers of Willy because you be hearing their names in the future as recruits teams will be targeting.

Makes you wonder...

In a article in the State paper, there is an article discussing Sherman Williams. He played for Alabama and then the Dallas Cowboys. I found his comments below to be the sort that either make you laugh or say "What tha...." You be the judge and post your comments....

"Williams was arrested on April 21, 2000 and charged with being the leader of a drug ring, which authorities said had supplied as much as 1,000 pounds of marijuana to the Mobile area since 1998.

Williams describes drug dealing as part of a lifelong affinity for business.

“I was always into some type of business,” he said. “I would sell you the red off a brick. I practiced business habits, entrepreneurial things.”
And the risk?

“Whenever you’re a businessman, there’s always a risk,” Williams said. “The most successful businessmen in the world are going to be high risk takers. The bigger the risk, the bigger the reward. Me, I just was a risk taker.” {Entire article here.}

So to review - drug dealing is a business and he was a risk taker.

Monday Sports Talk...

Here are a few Sports stories to get your week off to a good start.....

Here is a "feel good story"...An 83-year-old becomes oldest professional ballplayer, check out story here. This story gives all of us hope that one day we can make it. Also should give Jarod Reed more hope that one day his glory in the pee wee football leagues, the tape everyone has seen, can someday be given the opportunity to prove himself even if he has to wait until he is 83 yrs old. Look out panthers...

The ACC is expected to announce a new bowl order, since BC got the shaft last year the ACC is looking to make things a little better. Read more here. This change makes sense.

I looked over the "post-Spring" rankings the other day since college football is 38 days away. It was interesting to see Clemson ranked number 11, to there credit they did finish the 2005 campaign at number 21. So will this be the year of the tiger or just anther "what could have been" story from the CU faithful. I must say that Tommy Bowden has all the pieces of the puzzle in place (recruits, upper classmen, favorable schedule, new seats in the stadium) for this year and if he can not win big this year (better than the 8-4, 7-5, 6-5 season records of the past) it may be time for Klempson to re-think their coaching staff and find some money to do a little 'buy out.' If CU wants to win the ACC which it has not done in 15 years then they may need a new coach to get it done. Rankings can be seen here.

Lastly, Allow me to mention a few of the Gamecock successes over the past year (from USC Athletics Dept.):

---South Carolina was the only school in the Southeastern Conference and just one of 11 schools in the country to have its football team play in a bowl game, have both its men's and women's basketball teams compete in post-season play and have its baseball team advance to the NCAA Regionals.
---The equestrian team captured the national hunt seat crown, its second consecutive national title.
---Our men's soccer team won the conference championship and automatically qualified for the NCAA post-season, while both our men's and women's tennis and golf teams advanced to NCAA post-season play.
---The baseball team has advanced to the Super Regionals six of the past seven years, one of only three schools in the nation to do so.
---Our men's basketball squad became the first team since 1944 to win back-to-back NIT championships.

Until next time and please let's here those comments...
