Gamecocks Win in Basketball

Led by Zam Fredrick, who had a season-high 23 points, the Gamecocks beat USC-Upstate 75-53 after pouring in on in the 1st half. First-year coach Darrin Horn became the first South Carolina coach to win his first three games since Johnnie McMillian started 5-0 in 1944.

This is the 3rd win for USC and in those 3 games the margin of victory has been 19.3 points.

Final Stats

USC-Upstate coach Eddie Payne had a interesting quote in the above referenced story from The State....he said...
“South Carolina has some depth issues that they’ll have to manage,” Payne said. “Their guards are good enough that I think they will keep them involved in some games when they get into higher-level teams. ... “Their low-post thing is going to be a little bit of a problem as they get into SEC play.”

LOHD declares support for the Cavaliers today

With Clemson traveling to Scott Stadium, Charlottesville, Va. to take on Virginia (5-5, 3-3) there is a lot on the line for both teams. It all boils down to a 'W' that both teams are in search of and need to bring their bowl dreams one step closer.

LOHD is making it official today by backing the Cavs and hoping they win as it would ruin the hopes of Tiger Nation for a bowl game. It also would relieve some of the pressure of next week's match-up of USC vs CU. I do not want to hear about...CU has to win against USC to go to a bowl, etc....so that is why we are pulling for UVa today. And the fact that this blog really does not care too much for the Tigers.

As you will read below, the Cavaliers have won three of the last four against the Tigers. We hope they get another win today....Go Cavs! A Tiger loss could put a end to the Dabo talk which I am not sure is good or bad for us Gamecock fans.

Prediction - As long as UVa can limit the big plays from Clemson then UVa will win 23-17 today.

USC to play USC - Upstate

Congrats to Former Gamecock Steve Tolleson

Tolleson makes the short list of 40.

Tolleson was a former gamecock baseball player who is having success at the next level. We wish him well.

Tolleson, a fifth-round pick by the Twins in 2005, just finished his winter season in the prestigious Arizona Fall League, where he hit .383 in 27 games. He had seven doubles, two homers and a .449 on-base percentage. During the summer, Tolleson hit .300 in 93 games on the Double-A level and was named to the Eastern League all-star team.

Per the NFL network, there is a rumor going around the NFL that Spurrier is going to retire at the end of the season.

No source is giving but people are saying Spurrier is not happy that Spurrier Jr. won't be next in line for the coaching job at USC.

I wonder how true this is?
