Could lack of focus be to blame?

We all saw how Sorensen got burned almost every play against the Arkansas D line and now this has hit the internet. Fans of the Gamecocks know how suspect our offensive line has been all season and seems some on the team were not completely focused going into a big game.
Kudos or hat-tip goes to The Palmetto Scoop for this one. Here is what they wrote:

While it was the team as a whole that lost and not one particular player’s fault, one of the most glaring weaknesses was the offensive line. Quarterback Blake Mitchell was sacked twice and hurried at least another dozen times. It seemed the rare occasion that more than three seconds passed between the time the ball was snapped and the time the Razorback defense was in the South Carolina backfield. And then we received these hilarious photos of Gamecock’s right tackle Justin Sorensen (above and left) — among a number of other players — from a reader who said they were taken on Halloween night in Columbia’s Five Points district, and suddenly it all made sense. A bunch of South Carolina players went out partying the night before the team traveled to Fayetteville, and then the team got roughed up by the Razorbacks. The only reason we weren’t more surprised at these pictures was because Sorensen has a history of crazy behavior.
Don’t get us wrong, we’re all about having a good time. But there’s something to be said for a little restraint the night before leaving for a huge football game —especially when you’re getting a free college education because of football.

CAN'T BLAME THE OFFENSE ON THIS ONE I'LL TAKE 489 YARDS AND 36 POINTS IN EVERY CONFERENCE GAME AND SO FAR THE FACTS ABOUT SORENSON ARE THAT HE'S A COLLEGE KID WHO WORE A COSTUME ON HALLOWEEN AND THAT HE WALKED AWAY FROM AN ALTERCATION AND WAS SUBSEQUENTLY HIT OVER THE HEAD WITH A BEER BOTTLE I WOULD CONSIDER THAT UNDER PAR FOR THE TYPICAL USUC CRIMINAL RECORD

When you defense surrenders 650 yards. Think about this – the USC offense has compiled 990 yards of offense in the last two games with little to show for it except for some nice newspaper headlines and a pair of losses. It proves yet again that defense, turnovers and third-down efficiency have just as much to do with winning as a high-octane offense. Texas Tech has one of the top offenses in the country but it never wins the Big 12 conference title. That’s because teams like Oklahoma and Texas play much better defense. While Arkansas ran for 541 yards, another key to their victory was the fact it converted 10 of 13 third downs against a defense that had allowed opponents to convert just 27 percent (37 of 136) of their third down chances. USC also had an opportunity to pick up a key turnover but the ball squirted out of the pile and was picked up by an Arkansas player (Peyton Hollis) who proceeded to gain an additional 14 yards. Moments later, Arkansas scored on a 40-yard run up the middle by Felix Jones. Has USC been able to recover the fumble, they would have trailed by only a 7-3 score with the ball near midfield.

When you recruit 6 foot 3 lineman that way 300 pounds of "fake" weight, meaning if they were at their healthy weight they would only weigh 225, we are gonna get our asses pushed around. Have you guys seen our lineman out in the public? I call it fake weight because these guys have made themselves 300 pounds by over eating and not God's natural way. Being in Chicago over the past month, I have met a couple of guys that played at Big 10 schools. These guys are 6'6, tall, big men. Not the bloated, heart attack bound look that many of our Carolina lineman have. Garrett Anderson is a good example. This kid is way too small "naturally" to be playing offensive line in the SEC, as is the same thing for most of the guys on our offensive line.
So what should Spurrier do??? Go down to Mobile, Waynesville, Huntsville, and every other BFE town in the South and recruit nothing but gigantic lineman over the next two years. We have quarterbacks and running backs. We always have a backfield. Spurrier needs to check his ego at the door because I personally am already counting down the days till his contract is over. To build a program, you need someone who cares enough to build it. U think Spurrier really cares??? Or just cares about flashy plays and winning for today and not caring about tomorrow.-Dev
