Call it the Gator Slam. The Florida Gators became the first program to hold football and men's basketball titles at the same time Monday night with a 41-14 victory over top-ranked Ohio State.
Much like when Tiger Woods held all four golf majors -- he didn't win all of them in the same year, so it was dubbed the "Tiger Slam." Same case for UF.
Nonetheless, only six Division I schools -- including Florida and Ohio State -- have won championships in the NCAA's two marquee sports. But none of those had come closer than eight years apart -- until now. The others are Maryland, Michigan, Michigan State and Syracuse.
Key thinking to this is "current holders of the championships;" and of course "thanks for playing."

Point is---UF "HOLDS" the mens basketball and football championship. That no one can twist not even me or Nancy Pelosi. That point you can not argue and if you would like to discuss further with people more involved and care more then... I encourage you to call the UF at (352)392.3261 and ask them the question. I am sure you would have more fun talking with them rather that posting here.
YES they won in different academic years - 05-06 and 06-07. I never said "won" in the same year. Argue all you want and I said -- "I agree they did not win in the same year." But they still HOLD the trophies and will HOLD both trophies until April when the basketball title game rolls around. Who knows UF may win again in basketball this year 06-07. Swab I am not sure you are seeing the light, might be from all the other stats that are running thru your mind, but florida is now the title holder, or title defender in both basketball and Football at the same time. This would be the first time this has ever happened.
