IT is go time

Well kids it is time for our annual trip to Tomtom’s lake house. The weekend will consist of drinking (of course) boating, fishing and my favorite wiffle ball. In the past I have had some bad luck on the day we return from the lake, like last year when I was floating in the water and drinking beer. As always we throw are empty cans on the shore line for easy clean up later in the day. Well dev and I had made a pretty nice beeramid on the beach and were trying knock it down with each beer we finished. Well as I went to riffle one off to the shore, my index finger slipped in to the mouth of the beer cutting the tip of my finger pretty severely. It kind of freaked me out for a little bit until I listed to my dentist dev, who told me to keep drinking. He said it will make the pain go away, well my future wife got pretty upset at the idea of this, he little to my knowledge beer thins out your blood. Thinks again, dev for trying to kill me, I figured it wasn’t the first and won’t be the last.

Another horror story from the lake is a couple years ago, while driving back form the lake, Cashwell decided that it would be better to take I-95 down to Florence and then I-20 back to Columbia. Well while driving back Cashwell’s jeep Cherokee catches on fire and burns to the ground. I am talking tires and all are melted to the side of the road like a grilled cheese sandwich.

The final story I will tell is when Gray and Oldman killed my girlfriends dog while I was at the lake. We are still unclear about how it happened but the dog defiantly died that weekend which pretty much put a damper on that relationship. Enough said, so those of you that read the blog please say a little prayer that I survive this weekend. There have been a couple close calls in the past but I am pretty sure I will make it back.

Have a good weekend.

Several things to discuss....

Today, we will cover a few random thoughts. First, last night in Franklin, NC there was a earthquake. So...you may say...... but this is the seventh noticeable temblor to shake the region in the past year. There were no reports of damage in the 3.1-magnitude quake, centered 28 miles north of Franklin and felt from Maggie Valley to Bryson City to Cashiers just before 9 p.m. The town of Franklin is only about 2 hours away from Upstate SC. And I am happy to report that I felt nothing here in upstate SC.

Second, I noticed an article in The State paper about "an Horry County substitute teacher gave cocaine to two 14-year-old girls she met at a private school in Longs and used the drugs with them, police say.
The Faith Christian Academy students told school officials that Kim Pike invited them over to her house where they shared some cocaine in April, principal Sylvia Kenney said." That is one of those stories you just shake your head at and ask "what the h*ll is wrong with society today?"

Third, I am really pulling for GT today over Klempson. Sorry to those orange loving fans that may read this blog but I am really hoping that clemson goes 0-2 in the CWS trip.

traveling

I stole this from Southern sweetheart but I thought it was really cool. I think I have done a good bit of traveling in my 25 years. Most of it was either for football games or with my parents. Bob-man sure did love to travel, back in the day I thought of it as torture but now I wish I had enjoyed it more, but they did make a lasting impression on my life.

Saturday: DYK?

The first Saturday edition of "Did you know..."--

1) Many years ago in Scotland, a new game was invented. It was ruled "Gentlemen Only...Ladies Forbidden"...and thus the word GOLF entered into the English language.

2) Every day more money is printed for Monopoly than the U.S. Treasury.

3) Coca-Cola was originally green.

4) In the 1400's a law was set forth in England that a man was allowed to beat his wife with a stick no thicker than his thumb. Hence we have "the rule of thumb".

5) The State with the highest percentage of people who walk to work: Alaska

6) The percentage of Africa that is wilderness: 28% (now get this...)
The percentage of North America that is wilderness: 38%

7) Each king in a deck of playing cards represents a great king from history: Spades - King David ----Hearts - Charlemagne -----Clubs -Alexander ----the Great Diamonds - Julius Caesar

Special guest writer

A letter from Joey C.

I am a loyal reader of LeftOverHotDog and feel I owe its contributors some payback. I ritually read the postings and comment without fear of retribution because I do not have to voice my own opinions for scrutiny. So, here is my own little contribution for your thoughts and comments.

It has come to the attention of the press that the Republicans currently in office may be trying to divert the public's attention from the war in Iraq and Afghanistan as well as the fluctuating economy by bringing social issues to light. After all, social issues are a concern of the voting public. The most recent issues include the 12 million illegal immigrants currently residing in the continental United States and the gay marriage debate. After all, on these issues, the Republican base is considerably united: you cannot reward illegals with full citizenship and gay marriage should not be legalized. Utilizing these issues, the Republicans can hide the fact that they have failed to capitalize on their time in office by passing the legislation on which they campaigned. Now, I am not saying the Democrats elected have upheld their campaign promises either, but we do have a Republican executive branch and a majority Republican legislative branch. How we might be surprised if they did?
So, what do we do against this political manipulation? First, we recognize the gay marriage debate is a State issue not a National concern. After all, we do have a recognized separation of State and National powers set forth by the Constitution (whose framers, coincidentally, feared a dominating national government). Second, we cannot focus on what to do with the illegals present until we control the number of people still crossing our borders on a daily basis. The National Guard presence seems like a step in the right direction. The Mexican president also mentioned on an interview that the United States is seeking to strengthen the Mexican economy. This too seems like a necessary step. After all, why leave a country where you have financial opportunity? Third, use the press like the leaders we have elected. The press presents stories according to what the American people will read. If popular opinion indicates citizens of the United States are more concerned with political and economic topics than social issues then the press will continue to emphasize coverage of these issues.
In closing, I am a Republican. I voted for Bush. I don't think illegals can be deported. I think closing our borders is a necessary step. I believe in the equal rights of all citizens, gay or straight, regardless of my religious and/or personal affiliation. I read the news daily but refuse to take public opinion surveys (considering them a waste of time). And, I wouldn't change places with a politician for twice their non-declared income.
So, there it is! Have at it! Your loyal reader, Joey C.

No more awards for Jim Bob

I know it is too early to talk football but last years winner of the LOHD best name in college football Jim Bob Cooter of the Tennessee will not be repeating as the best name since he was kicked off the team. Jim Bob Cooter leaves a legacy of never playing in a game, but his name will live in history in the college ranks. He was kicked off for getting a DUI last weekend.

Priorities! (Your Federal Government at Work)

Here is something to think about.......5 million of our older Americans have not signed up yet for their Medicare, Part D, drug plan--they are old and confused.? The federal government is not going to grant them an extension.

However, 12 million illegal aliens are in our country and we are going to allow them to stay, protest, procreate, receive support monies, attend schools, avoid paying income taxes, have our teachers take 300 hours of ESOL (English as a second language) training at our expense, etc.

WE MUST REALLY DISLIKE OUR OLD PEOPLE! or, WE MUST REALLY LOVE TACOS!
