Mayweather vs De La Soul .... I mean De La Hoya.
Oscar De La Hoya (38-4, 30 KOs) vs. Floyd Mayweather Jr. (37-0, 24 KOs)
12 rounds for De La Hoya's junior middleweight title at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
It is a superbout set for May 5 on PPV.
Pound for pound, the 30-year-old Mayweather (he describes himself as "the Living Legend, a.k.a. The Villain, a.k.a. Floyd 'Makin' Millions' Mayweather, a.k.a. Pretty Boy Floyd, a.k.a. Homeboy) is the best boxer in the world. And by jumping a weight class to fight De La Hoya in Las Vegas for the junior middleweight title, he's front and center in one of the few remaining bouts with the power to stir the masses. If Mayweather wins, as most expect, he will earn his fifth title in five different weight classes, thanks in large part to extrasensory defensive skills and boxing's quickest, sharpest fists.
De La Hoya (aka the Golden Boy) possesses many attributes of the obvious variety: An extremely effective jab. A potent left hook. Enough power to have put a short end to 30 of his 38 victories. A stalwart chin. Better-than-average hand speed. A fine technician. And if he wins this bout some say he is the greatest fighter ever. He doesn't need the money from the fight he is already loaded with cash yet he always looks for a challenge and to prove people wrong.
Well, De La Hoya is the underdog and I think Mayweather will win this bout on a decision. But look for it to be close and a heck of a fight to watch. Should be a classic.....
Who do you guys think will win?
