Spring Game review...

Now that the Gamecock faithful has had time to think about what took place this past weekend with the Spring Game...what are the thoughts of the LOHD readership concerning the performance of the football team? How did they look? Who performed well or who sucked?

As we know, the Black team won 14-7 over the Garnet squad in South Carolina's annual Garnet & Black Spring Game, held in front of a crowd of 35,153 at Williams-Brice Stadium this past Saturday.

Let's hear the reviews on how they did...

Boyd looked great.

Mitchell finished the afternoon by completing 13-of-39 passes for 150 yards with a pair of interceptions. Redshirt freshman Chris Smelley was 10-for-22 for 83 yards with one interception for the Black squad.

Bobby Wallace was the game's top rusher, carrying 10 times for the Garnet team for 61 yards. Boyd led the Black team with eight carries for 58 yards and the two touchdowns.

Jared Cook was Mitchell's top target, hauling in five passes for 66 yards. Freddie Brown paced the Black team with four catches for 30 yards.

Cook will be a stud at TE this year. Mitchell sucked!!! Defense looked okay granted they played like 3 schemes yet the offense just could not click.

I am already getting nervous about the UGA game...

Mitchell hasn't had a good spring game yet, he will be there next year. I am also getting nervous about UGA but I think our Defense will be good enought to stop the Dawgs. As long as we have a run game by UGA we should be fine.

The spring game sucked. It was boring as hell. I came into the game looking at 3 keys. 1. The play of our receivers. 2. The offensive line. 3. play of defense as a whole. Lets take some positives first. The defense looked pretty solid. Not sure if our defense line is that good or if our o-line is that bad but they were in the backfield a lot. I was looking for some big hits but you could tell they were holding back. All in whole defense a B+. not an A bc i think the offense had some chances but we will get to that in a minute.

Offense:Receivers, non existent really. Yeah Jarod Cook made some plays but he dropped a ton of passes too. Dropped passes were everywhere. i thought bad route running too. kenny mckinnley was really no where either. Positive is that we have a lot of recivers coming in the summer so.

O-Line- terrible, d-line manhandled these guys. they are really slow esp. are tackles. they made some blocks here and there but the defense only rushed 4 all day.

Then i left with questions about the whole offense. quartbacks were off. it was bad. running backs were okay. My main concern was I didnt see a single playmaker out there. no really one player that you could count on. Hopefully one of these freshman will be or some of these uperclassmen will commit themselves to getting better. Overall the game was slopppy, uneventfull, and plain out boring.

plunger - Cook is going to suck at tight end because he will be playing reciever. Look for Prochak to be the tight end of choice when it comes to our passing in the flats.

One of the few good things I did notice was when our recievers were or were not dropping balls our defensive backs were always around looking to make plays. Look for the db's to lead the league in interceptions and least amount of deep balls thrown on.
