That it now costs the US Mint 1.23 cents to manufacture a penny, that is a 27% jump from last year; attributed to cost increases in manufacturing, metals and transportation.
Also it costs 5.73 cents to produce a nickel, that is up 19% from 2005.
Who says a penny is not worth a penny? This goes back to a argument we have all heard about whether the US should do away with pennies??? What does the readership think?

Basically, I have a large container full of the damn things at home. Who puts a penny back in their pocket after they have cleaned out their pockets when they get home? Answer: NO ONE!
