USC WR Freddie Brown to Transfer
Brown Transferring From USC
Freddie was not a big factor over his 3 yr tenure but still not happy to see him go as one thing we need on the team is leadership.
Seems "the non-starting rising seniors on the team are being encouraged to look for new programs?" Interesting....

USC tight end Jared Cook is leaving USC for the NFL
Gamecocks tight end headed to NFL
Not really a surprise here as most fans and us here at LOHD figured he was gone. I mean he is 6 foot 5 around 240 lbs and runs a 4.37 in the 40. He is the next Tony Gonzalez or Antonio Gates or should I say All-Pro TE.
Time for Weslye Saunders to step up his game and LOHD predicts he too is the next TE to be drafted from the Gamecocks when his tenure is over too.

Petty might be on his way back to Columbia
Per The State newspaper Phil Petty might be coming back to USC as the new QB Coach. Petty is currently coaching at East Carolina with Skip Holtz. Spurrier has also mentioned Noah Brindise as a potential hire for the open QB coaching position. As a gamecock fan I think we should bring back Phil, Spurriers guys haven't really worked out all that well so far.

Spurrier hires a new OL coach
Spurrier hires Eric Wolford as OL Coach
Welcome to the gamecock nation Mr. Eric Wolford. We hope you will do a better job than John Hunt did b/c we have to build a solid foundation up front for the Spurrier Offense to work.

Former Gamecock Syvelle Newton Surfaces
Harrisburg Stampede Signs Quarterback Syvelle Newton
The Harrisburg Stampede of the American Indoor Football Association announced the signing of quarterback Syvelle Newton recently.
Newton was a great player during his days as a Gamecock. Heck he has over 4000 friends on his MySpace page. I guess the performances after his album dropped are slowing down so now it is time to take his game to the AIFA.
LOHD would like to wish Mr. Newton the best after no luck in Georgia or Montreal. It would be interesting to see Newton vs. other former gamecock qb Blake Mitchell. The Stampede take on the Carolina Force on 3/7/09 and then on 6/6/09.
Who would you pull for Mitchell or Newton?

Gamecocks beat Wofford
South Carolina Defeats Wofford, 78-61
Devan Downey continued to light up the scoreboard as he scored 17 points to lead South Carolina over the Terriers.
That is win number 11 and next up Auburn on 1/10/09.

Gamecocks Safeties coach Ron Cooper has accepted a job at LSU
Breaking news: Cooper leaving USC for LSU
That gives Spurrier 3 coaching vacancies....
Interesting quote from Cooper -
"Every year I think they’ve got a chance to compete for a national championship.”
So what you are saying is Carolina can not win?

Horn's boys beat Baylor
USC stuns No. 19 Baylor
Zam Fredrick hit a go-ahead layup with 5.1 seconds left and South Carolina rallied for an 85-84 victory over No. 19 Baylor. This was a huge win for the gamecocks and a much needed one after the clemson loss.
I am a big fan of Horn and with time, I feel he will get the program going in the right direction. Odom did a good job but we have to move the program to the next level. I have always said that the SEC is a league that carolina could easily move into contention for a championship and it seems with Horn and the direction we are going it is only a matter of time.
What we really need is a big man like 7-0 center Beas Hamga of Cameroon to join our speedy guard play; with Hamgo I feel we could do some damage in the SEC.
This win should raise some gamecock spirits....
Next up - Wofford on 1/5/09.

Former Gamecock Ko Simpson arrested
NFL's Ko Simpson arrested in Rock Hill
Former Gamecock now Buffalo Bills safety and a former Rock Hill High standout Ko Simpson was arrested outside a Rock Hill bar early New Year's Day after police say he wouldn't leave while they were trying to clear the area due to a fight in the parking lot.
Simpson, 25, was charged with hindering a police investigation. The best part is Ko saying - "I'm Ko Simpson with the Buffalo Bills. I am worth millions!"

Captain and Norwood go bye bye
Munnerlyn, Norwood turning pro
I think everyone knew this was going to happen, like we knew E Cook would go, but I still feel both would be better served by staying one more year. Lots of DE and CB in the draft this year but LOHD wishes them the best and hope they join the gamecock club as we need money.
Will J Cook join them?

31-10 victory for Iowa over the Gamecocks
Gamecocks lose after some poor play on the field. More later...

Gameday - Go Cocks! Beat Iowa!

As I head for the stadium this morning, I just wanted check to see if you are as pumped for this game as I? I have a great feeling for this game.....Tampa has been a great bowl site/host. I will write more on that when I get back this weekend but until then make sure you tune in at 11am and watch the mighty gamecocks take on Iowa.
I pray that we can stop the run today and not allow Iowa to establish a running attack as that is the key to winning for Carolina........
GO COCKS!!!
